Move With The Mayor Challenge

MWTM Logo

"Move with the Mayor" is a national initiative that works with mayors across the country to challenge their communities to be more phyiscally active and lower their risk for heart attacks.

This September, the Village of Glendale Heights has partnered with West Chicago, Glen Ellyn and other communities from around the United States, in conjunction with the National Forum for Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention to participate in Move with the Mayor - a campaign challenging communities to be more physically active. From now until September 29 you will have access to informative material and virtual/online events to help you increase your physical activity so please join me as we kick-off the Glendale Heights Move with the Mayor Campaign.

Additionally, a few of the mayor's from DuPage County have gotten together to have a little friendly stepping competition. The Village of Glendale Heights is an active community so join my team and let's show West Chicago, Glen Ellyn, Bartlett and Hanover Park who can get more steps! To join the Glendale Heights team, please download the "Heka Walk" app, track your steps and compete with other participating towns to win bragging rights in DuPage County. Our site will stay active through at least December 31st so let's end the year on a healthy path.

Speaking of paths, here are a few locations in Glendale Heights to help get you started Moving with the Mayor:

Gladstone Park

With this path being redone this summer stop out and walk around the pond and enjoy the wildlife that visits this park.

Reskin Park Reskin Park Trail

Reskin Park is not only home to a playground, baseball field and park shelters - but the outdoor workout circuit is the perfect place to get moving! Walk around the path and check out the circuit as you go.

Camera Park

If high intensity workouts are your thing, visit the Sled hill at Camera Park. A great place to run and get that heart rate up. If high intensity isn't your thing, the numerous walking paths will give you many different options for walking!

Veteran's Memorial Park

If you are looking to do a little more casual walk with places to stop, Veteran's Memorial Park offers a quiet park with remembrance sayings and monuments to learn information about our military and Veterans. Don't forget to spin the globe when you get to the middle of the path.

Ollman Park

This park offers all kinds of different activities and ways to stay fit. From softball and soccer fields to playgrounds and walking paths there is something for everyone. Ollman Park also has one of three tennis courts in Glendale Heights Parks so come on out and be the next tennis star!

The Mayor invites you to join "Team Glendale Heights" in our effort to increase physical activity and prevent heart disease. Don't forget to download the "Heka Walk" app and join others in our effort to prevent heart disease and get moving.
